The 2018 Mercedes-AMG G63 has been launched in India at a price of Rs. 2.19 crore all India ex showroom. The new G63 was revealed globally prior to the Geneva Motor Show.

The new G63 comes with an aluminum body shell on a ladder frame chassis that is now wider by 210 mm than the earlier model. It also gets reworked suspension that has now raised ground clearance to 241 mm.

On the exterior, it features a new front grille with 12 vertical slats, a new front bumper with a matte silver skid plate, 21 inch alloy wheels a standard an side mounted exhaust pipes. LED headlamps are standard and they can be upgraded to Multi Beam units as an option.

The interior gets an all new dashboard that features the Mercedes’ Widescreen Cockpit. There is a flat bottom AMG sports steering wheel with touch pad controls and a wide centre console. There are new design AC vents as well. A 12.3 inch screen for the infotainment system is also standard. The new G63 gets redesigned front seats and a foldable rear bench to free up more cargo space. Other features include two tone Nappa leather upholstery and Burmester sound system

Power comes from a 4.0 litre bi-turbo V8 petrol engine that replaces the older 5.5 unit. This engine develops 585 horsepower at 6000 rpm and maximum torque of 850 Nm that comes up between 2500 and 3500 rpm. The motor is mated to a new nine speed automatic gearbox that sends power all four wheels via the Mercedes 4Matic all wheel drive system. Mercedes-AMG claims a 0 to 100 kph timing of 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 220 kph. An optional driver’s package an increase that top speed to 240 kph(limited).

The Mercedes-AMG G63 rivals the Range Rover Sport SVR in India.
