2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S350d Ride and Suspension

Ride quality on the S-Class is magic carpet as expected. The Airmatic air suspension makes short work of potholes and bad patches on the road. It is sad that the famed ‘Magic Body Control’ doesn’t make it to the Indian S-Class due to radar frequency restrictions. The Magic Body Control uses a camera to scan the road ahead and makes adjustments to the suspension automatically to deal with the road imperfections, not compromising on the ride quality. The suspension can be raised by 30 mm at the touch of a button. There are four driving modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual. Ride is best in Comfort mode while Sport stiffens up the suspension and adds weight to the steering. The suspension automatically lowers in Sport mode by 20mm at a speed of 100 kph. In Comfort, it lowers by 10 mm from 120 kph and a further 10 mm from 160 km. Body roll is also well controlled for a car of its size. City driving is effortless and you are just cocooned from the noise of the outside world. It feels like you are in another dimension all together. The 360 degree cameras also make life easy and Blind Spot detection does work overtime in urban traffic.
