Range Rover LWB Engine & Performance

Engine options vary from V6 and V8 diesels to supercharged V6 and V8 petrols in the Ranger Rover LWB. Our test example came with the 3.0 TD V6 putting out 258 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque. On paper this might not seem much for this behemoth, but its more than adequate. It is only when you accelerate hard that you feel the weight, otherwise it just hums along at relaxed speeds and that’s really the way it is meant to be driven. The eight speed automatic gearbox shifts smoothly except for a bit of jerkiness at lower speeds. There is also a slight lag during kick down shifts but nothing that is a bother really. While most LWB Range Rovers will be chauffeur driven, its equally nice to self drive when you feel like taking to the wheel. You just have to get used to the length of the SUV. Also, you really sit tall allowing you to exchange pleasantries with the bus driver next to you at the traffic light.

The ride is simply magic carpet and the Range Rover LWB just wafts on the road. Every undulation in the road is dealt off without you even knowing that it existed. Coming to the handling, there is no point talking about it because well you aren’t going to be attacking corners and even if you do, there is considerable body roll due to the soft set up of the air suspension.

Range Rover LWB Verdict

The Range Rover is far from being inexpensive with prices starting at Rs. 1.95 crore for this LWB V6 diesel going up to a whopping Rs. 4 crore plus for the LWB SVAutobiography supercharged petrol. At these prices, you can go for a luxo barge sedan but what the Range Rover offers you is acres of space and legendary off-road prowess, something that a limousine can’t offer you. While most Range Rover LWBs wont go the path less travelled, it is always nice to know that you can go anywhere with it if you want to. If you want to make a statement and show the world that you have arrived, the Range Rover LWB will gladly shout that out for you. There is nothing out there that comes close to the legacy of this iconic marque.
