The 2019 Nissan Kicks is the car maker’s new launch in the Indian market after a very long time. It is also significantly important because it enters the fiercely competitive compact SUV segment. This version of the Kicks is different from the one that is sold in the international markets. It has been designed and developed in India for India and is based on the same M0 platform that underpins the the Renault Duster and Captur. The Kicks sold abroad is based on the Micra platform. We were in Bhuj in Gujarat to drive Nissan’s new baby to the Great Rann of Kutch. There were some fantastic roads to drive along the way and we try to find out if the Kicks has what it takes to take on the segment dominating Hyundai Creta.

2019 Nissan Kicks Exterior

The design of the Nissan Kicks is more crossover than outright SUV. However, it does get butch styling that gives it a certain SUV stance. The front is dominated by the V shaped motion grille with chrome borders. The large angular headlamps are LED units and there are LED DRLs as well. There are chrome inserts in the front bumpers along with a faux skid plate and the fog lamps double up as cornering lights. There is black cladding along the side including the wheel arches. The 17 inch diamond cut alloys look great and the roof rails which can take a load of 100 kg add to the SUV character. The black pillar gives a floating roof effect and the two tone paint finish with the contrast roof works well. The rear gets boomerang shaped tail lights along with a roof spoiler. The rear bumper gets a chrome plate on the upper side and a skid plate underneath. Dimension wise, the Kicks is larger than the Creta and a highlight is the massive 210 mm of ground clearance.
