With the Indian Government looking towards full electrification by 2030, most manufactures are working on EVs for the market. After Suzuki and Toyota, Honda is the latest car maker to join the fray.

A report has suggested that Honda is looking to launch an EV based on the Brio hatchback in India. Since the next gen Brio is already in development, stage, Honda could be working on the Brio’s platform to make it electric ready.

While Europe and Japan will get the Urban EV Concept production version in 2019 and 2020, a low cost hatch makes more sense for India.

Honda is also looking to setup a lithium ion battery manufacturing plant in India just like Suzuki. Plans for the battery plant and EV were discussed at a Honda India Board meeting recently. A decision is still pending.
