Germany car maker Audi is not satisfied by being the number 1 luxury car maker in India. It wants to expand business and double sales to 20,000 units by the year 2018. Audi is set to announce major investment into the Indian market in the coming 3 to 4 months.

At present, Audi India has a standing capacity to produce 14,000 units per year.  The car company sold 10,851 units in 2014 and the held the number 1 position in the Indian market for the second year in a row.

Audi India Head Joe King said that they were looking to increase their sales by 10 to 15 percent in 2015. The company entered the North Eastern market by opening its first dealership in Guwahati, which is expected to sell 150-200 units in the first year. King said Audi India is targeting 2,500- 3,000 units this year in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odhisa and North East.

“Currently, 96 per cent of our sales are assembled in India. This helps us in offering products at a competitive prices. Because of this, we have been able to capture a market share of 34 per cent in the luxury segment and we will maintain this in future,” King said.

Audi has a range of models in line for launch in India this year and that includes the new Q7 SUV.
