Bentley has officially taken the wraps off its new crossover, the Bentayga. The company describes it as “the fastest, most power, most luxurious and most exclusive SUV in the world,”

The front end resembles the Continental GT and Flying Spur to a large extent. The Bentayga gets four round LED headlamps and large matrix grille, B shaped air vents on the front fenders and muscular haunches towards the rear. It gets a skid plate on the lower portion of the front bumper. The Bentayga comes with a panoramic glass roof as standard that is split into two panes. The front panel tilts and slides, and the whole glass surface can be obscured via an electric, full-length roller blind. The crossover is available with the choice of 20 or 22 inch alloy wheels.

The interior is as luxurious as you would expect from a Bentley combining handcrafted wood and leather throughout the cabin. The electric front seats come with 22 way adjustment, including adjustable cushion and backrest bolsters. A six-programme massage system, seat heating and ventilation is also included. There is a 8” touch screen infotainment system boasts navigation technology, a 60GB hard drive, and a choice of up to 30 languages. The rear passengers get the   Bentley Entertainment Tablet – a removable 10.2” Android device with 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth for effortless, high-speed on-board connectivity. The Bentayga can be ordered in four or five seater configurations. In the four seat config, rear seats adjust in 18 different ways and include massage and ventilation functions as well as footrests. The rear console features cup holders, generous storage areas and USB charging sockets. The crossover features a hands free tail gate that also comes with optional folding event seat. The seat comes finished in leather and matches exactly the style of the cabin seats.

The Bentayga is powered by an all new 6.0 litre W12 twin turbo petrol engine that develops 600 bhp @ 6000 rpm and 900 Nm torque coming up from from 1,250 rpm to 4,500 rpm. It sprints from 0 to 100 kph in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 301 kph. The engine is mated to an eight speed automatic gearbox and a four wheel drive system. It features the Bentley’s Variable Displacement system, which shuts down half of the engine under defined conditions. Intake and exhaust valves, fuel injection and ignition are all shut down on defined cylinders, with the engine running as a six-cylinder for improved efficiency. Bentley has added advanced start-Stop technology for the Bentayga, where coasting is also available, as the engine rests not only when the vehicle is stationary but also at ‘near to stop’ speeds.

Deliveries for the Bentayga are scheduled to begin next year.
