Sunday is a field day for car spotters in Mumbai and there is big bunch of enthusiasts waiting with their DSLRs at the end of the Bandra Worli Sealink. As the shutter bugs went click click click, it gave me and the i8 the same feeling a film star would get while walking down the red carpet at a movie event. Post a few moments of fame, I got the car’s 42 litre fuel tank topped up with extra premium high octane fuel and headed to our regular meeting spot. I have attended these car meets with my own and many other cars but have never received such a reception that got when I turned up in the i8. Cameras clicking, people of all ages gawking at the car, even foreign tourists couldn’t help but stop in the tracks of their guided Mumbai tours to have a look. There is always a nice spread of sports cars and classic cars at these meet ups but the i8 easily became the star attraction of the morning with its butterfly doors and mind boggling design. After a good couple of hours hanging out with the gang over coffee and breakfast along with car talk, I headed back home driving leisurely.
