SF16-H

Ferrari has revealed their challenger for the 2016 Formula 1 season. Called the SF16-H, the Scuderia is hoping this car will help them take on Mercedes for the title this season.

The SF16-H features a different livery, as speculated in the past weeks, with white paint appearing on the engine cover, the front wing and in front of the cockpit.

The car incorporates a push-rod front suspension as well as a short nose, already used by some of Ferrari’s rivals last year.

Ferrari is believed to have made significant changes to the engine that will power the car this year in the hope of catching Mercedes after a promising 2015 season. The Maranello squad finished second behind the Mercedes in the standings, bouncing back from a disastrous 2014.

Sebastian Vettel won three races for the team on his way to third in the standings. The German will be partnered by Kimi Raikkonen once more. The car is expected to take to the track on Sunday for a filming day at Barcelona before testing kicks off on Monday at the Spanish circuit.

Here are the eight key changes that are made to the 2016 car:

  • Short ‘thumb’-style nose.
  • Return to push-rod suspension at the front of the car.
  • Re-designed sidepods, accommodating a different cooler configuration.
  • Sidepod airflow conditioners amended to suit the sidepods leading edge.
  • Enlarged radiator louvres alongside the cockpit.
  •  Airbox shape has changed from a trapezoidal design to a more conventional inverted U, whilst the roll bars support spar has been lent back.
  • Rear bodywork tightened with the side cooling outlets raised to allow more airflow into the coke bottle region.
  • Two wastegate exhausts, one either side of the main exhaust outlet.
