Honda has introduced a new nine speed automatic gearbox in the Honda Civic diesel in the international markets. It is the first time that the car maker is offering a diesel auto combination in the current Civic.

The 1.6 litre diesel engine develops 120 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. Honda claims a 0 to 100 kph timing of 11 seconds and a top speed of 200 kph. This same engine powers the diesel CR-V that is et to launch in India along with the Civic in the near future. The nine speed automatic gearbox has the ability skip through gears eg: directly shift from 9th to 5th or from 7th to 4th. This results in better fuel efficiency and the shifts are also faster.

Along side the diesel engine, the Indian Civic will also come with a 1.8 litre petrol engine making 140 horsepower.

Once launched, the Honda Civic will rival the Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia and the Hyundai Elantra.
