Honda has announced that it will make its more powerful 1.6 litre iDTEC diesel engine at their plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan, from July 2017. The engine will be exported to the car maker’s Thailand plant and will be used in the Honda Civic for the Philippines. The 1.6 litre iDTEC diesel motor will be available in two states of tune. A 120 horsepower 300 Nm version will be used in the Civic and HR-V, while a more powerful 158 horsepower 350 Nm version will feature in the CR-V. All these models are expected to launch in India.

Honda’s Tapukara plant is the largest producer of diesel engines for the car maker worldwide. The facility can build engines from scratch. All major components will be sourced locally or be manufactured at the plant itself.

The only diesel engine that was produced at the Tapukara plant was the 1.5-litre iDTEC engine that powers the City, Amaze, WR-V, Jazz, BR-V and Mobilio.
