Jaguar F-Pace Engine and Performance

The Jaguar F-Pace comes with two engine options in India. The Pure and the Prestige trim models feature the new 2.0 litre four cylinder Ingenium diesel unit that develops 180 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. Straight of the line, the engine is loud. Turbo lag is also felt in the initial revs. The motor gets better as you move further up the rev counter. It has a strong mid-range and drivability is good post the 2000 rpm mark. It does well for relaxed high cruising but definitely wont ignite the enthusiast in you. The 0 to 100 sprint takes over 10 seconds and Jaguar claims a top speed of 208 kph. The 20d does feel underpowered for this behemoth so to say. The 3.0 litre V6 diesel in the R-Sport is in total contrast all together. It feels as if the leaping cat has got a sting up its tail. This strong diesel engine puts out 296 horsepower and a meaty 700 Nm of torque. The difference is immediately apparent once you hit the throttle pedal. Refinement levels are top notch and the engine feels silent at cruising speeds. Go up higher in the rev band and you get a throaty growl that perfectly matches the character of this SUV. All that torque gives you the punch you need to pick up the pace (pun intended) super quick. Both engines are mated to an eight speed automatic gearbox, which does the job well. You can also hold gears when driving in manual mode, with the paddle shifters coming in handy.  The F-Pace gets all wheel drive as standard. The Jaguar F-Pace gives you four driving modes:- Eco, Normal, Rain/Sport and Dynamic. Each mode alters the throttle response, steering and gearshifts. In the First Edition model, the stiffness of the adaptive dampers is also altered electrically. For maximum satisfaction, we recommend the combination of the Dynamic mode with Sport. Guaranteed smiles all the way to the red line. The other highlight of the F-Pace is the handling. Sure, there is some body roll but it will surprise you how it takes a liking to twisty roads. There is fantastic grip with the wide tyres just adding to the fun. It is super fun to take corners with the torque vectoring feature keeping things under control. This system applies brakes to individual wheels if it senses a loss in traction. The steering feels direct and very responsive. All this makes the F-Pace a super fun to drive SUV. The ride is rather good too with the suspension making short work of the undulations on the road with firmness felt on rare occasions.
