Jaguar Land Rover is in the process of phasing out their V6 line up of engines. According to a report by Car magazine, JLR will be introducing new inline six cylinder units as part of the Ingenium engine family.

Jaguar Land Rover engineer chiefs say that the new inline six cylinder motors will perfectly compliment the rear wheel drive layout of Jaguars, and will be suited for SUVs from Land Rover as well.

The new engine will be a 3.0 litre direct injection turbocharged unit that will be offered in both petrol and diesel. Power for the engines will be available in three sets of tune:

  • Petrol six-cylinder: 300/400/500bhp
  • Diesel six-cylinder: 275/335/400bhp

The new engines will be lighter, and will have reduced emissions and better fuel economy. The engine is expected to power the Jaguar XE, XF, F-Pace and XJ. It will also be seen in the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and the next gen Land Rover Discovery.

Jaguar Land Rover will debut the new Ingenium inline six engines in 2017.
