Jeep India has announced a hike in the prices of the Jeep Compass after the Government increased the cess over the GST. The price increase will range from Rs. 21,000 to Rs. 72, 000 across the variants. The Compass was launched on July 31st with a very competitive price and has received over 10,000 bookings.

Addiionally, the CBU Jeep models will see a price increase in the range of Rs. 2.75 lakh to Rs. 6.40 lakh. Fiat models will see a price hike of Rs. 9,000 to 14,000 respectively.

The the additional cess on mid-size cars has been raised by 2 percent, on luxury cars by 5 percent and on SUVs by 7. Under the previous rate, large vehicles and SUVs attracted a cess of 15 percent over the flat rate of 28 percent.

Due the hike, car sales will surely be affected during the upcoming festive season, a time when generally sales see a big spike.
