Land Rover recently announced that the new Discovery Sport will launch on September 2, 2015. The company has now announced that it has got over 200 orders for the SUV in India within days of dealers starting to take bookings. The Discovery Sport is a replacement for the now discontinued Freelander 2 and will be assembled at the JLR facility in Pune.

Powering the Discovery Sport will be a 2.2 litre 4 cylinder diesel engine that will be available in two states of tune: 150 and 180 horsepower. The motor will be mated to a nine speed automatic gearbox.  The new 2.0 litre Ingenium diesel is expected later.

Rohit Suri, President, Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd (JLRIL), said “We are very excited that Land Rover’s most versatile premium SUV, ‘Discovery Sport’ has received such an overwhelming response from our distinguished and discerning customers in India. We thank them for their spirited response and reposing their trust once again in the iconic Land Rover brand.”

The Discovery Sport will rival the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and the Volvo XC60.
