Land Rover will be launching the Discovery Sport SUV in India on September 2, 2015. The Discovery Sport is a replacement for the Freelander 2. It will be assembled at JLR India’s facility in Pune.

Powering the Discovery Sport will be a 2.2 litre 4 cylinder diesel engine that will be available in two states of tune: 150 and 180 horsepower. The motor will be mated to a nine speed automatic gearbox.  The new 2.0 litre Ingenium diesel is expected later.

The Discovery Sport will come in a ‘5+2’ seater configuration. The equipment list includes bi-xenon headlamps, dual zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, leather seats with electric adjust at the front and Land Rover’s new InControl touchscreen system. The Discovery Sport will also get the Terrain Response 4WD system.

Dealers have started accepting orders and the SUV is expected to be offered in four variants with pricing ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 65 lakh. The Discovery Sport will rival the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and the Volvo XC60.
