Mercedes Benz has launched the GLE SUV in India at a price of Rs 58.9 lakh for the GLE 250 d and 69.9 lakh for the GLE 350 d ex showroom Delhi. The GLE is essentially the facelift version of the ML Class.

The GLE gets styling cues from the C-Class and S-Class. There is a large double slat grille and new LED headlamps and tail lamps. There are dual exhausts at the rear with chrome pipes. The interior is more luxurious. There is a new standalone tablet style 8 inch screen for the COMMAND online system.Other features features include a new three spoke steering wheel, automatic climate control (dual zone on the 250 d and three zone on the 350 d, Touch Pad for the infotainment system,  360 degree camera, double sunroof, Airmatic suspension, memory function for front seats and ambient lighting.

The GLE 250 d is powered by a 2.1 litre diesel engine developing 204 horsepower and 500 Nm torque and the GLE 350 d gets a 3 litre V6 turbocharged engine good for 258 horsepower and 620 nm torque. The GLE comes with a new 9G- TRONIC nine speed automatic gearbox. It is the first 9 speed autobox in the world that can be used in conjunction with longitudinally mounted engines. The GLE also comes with the 4MATIC all wheel drive system and 5 DYNAMIC SELECT drive modes: Comfort, Sport, Slippery, Individual and Off-Road.

Safety features include six airbags, Crosswind Assist, Downhill Speed Regulation, ESP with Cruve Dynamic Assist, Brake Assistance system, Attention Assist, PRE SAFE and Active Parking Assist.

The GLE will be produced at Mercedes’ Chakan plant in Pune from launch itself. This is the company’s 13th launch this year.
