launchThe Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV has been launched in India at a price of Rs. 80.40 lakh ex showroom Pune. The GLS is the facelifted version of the GL that was launched in India in 2010. The GLS moniker is in tune with the company’s new nomenclature.IMG_0330 IMG_0332 IMG_0350The exterior gets styling updates in tune with the Merc’s new design language. There are new front and rear bumpers, a larger twin slat front grille along with new headlamps with integrated DRLs and tail lamps, which get different graphics and new design 20 inch alloy wheels. The ORVMs also come with logo projection.IMG_0360 IMG_0357 IMG_0339Coming to the interior, significant changes include a free standing 8 inch tab like screen for the infotainment system along with touch pad and a three spoke steering wheel. Apple Car Play is standard on the GLS. Other features include three zone climate control, electric folding third row of seats, panoramic sunroof and 360 degree camera. The boot has a maximum capacity of 2300 litres with seats folded.IMG_0353The Mercedes-Benz GLS features a 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine that develops 258 horsepower and 620 Nm of torque. It goes from 0 to 100 kph in a claimed 7.8 seconds and has a top speed of 222 kph. The engine now comes mated to Mercedes’ new 9G-Tronic nine speed automatic gearbox. The GLS also features five driving modes and adaptive air suspension.

The Mercedes-Benz GLS will be locally produced at the car maker’s plant in Chakan, Pune. The GLS will rival the new Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90 in the Indian market.
