3Mercedes-Benz India has announced that it will launch the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard in India on March 8, 2016. This the first passenger car to come certified with VR10 ballistic production level.

The car is 5453 mm long and has a wheelbase of 3365 mm, making it 20 cm larger in both dimensions than the S-Class with long wheelbase. The rear seats have been repositioned further back, which adds to privacy. The VR10 certified barge has bodywork and windows that can withstand hardened steel core bullets fired from an assault rifle. It  features special aramid and PE components along with polycarbonate coating for the windows for splinter protection. The windows have outstanding visual characteristics, despite their laminated structure.

In an explosion takes place at the side of the car, the armouring protects the occupants as effectively as it does in an assault with explosives beneath the vehicle. The underbody armouring covers the underbody under the occupant compartment, which the company says is a unique feature in the civilian special-protection segment.

Apart from the VR10 certification, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard also has  an ERV 2010 rating (Explosive Resistant Vehicles).

Other Guard vehicles in the Guard portfolio include the G-Class Guard, GLE Guard and the S-Class Guard. Mercedes-Benz has been building special protection vehicles for over 85 years. Th company had launched the S-Class Guard in India last year
