Mini Countryman Cooper SD Engine & Performance

The Mini Countryman Cooper SD is powered by BMW’s 2.0 litre four cylinder diesel engine that puts out 190 horsepower and 400 Nm of max torque.  It goes from 0 to 100 in a claimed 7.7 seconds. Transmission duties are handled by an eight speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the front wheels. And boy this thing is quick. Power is instant right from the word go along with a strong mid-range as well. There is quite a bit of torque steer if you hit the throttle hard though, just front wheel drive things. The gearshifts are quick and smooth though downshifts could be better. The motor does tend to get noisy as you go up the rpms though.

Mini Countryman Cooper SD Handling & Safety

Just like any Mini, this Countryman is super fun to drive. There are three drives modes – Green, Mid and Sport which alter throttle response, steering and the gearbox. The steering is well weighted and feels direct. Though on the heavier side even in city driving, there’s nothing to complain about. Body roll is also well controlled. The ride is on the stiffer side especially at low speeds but tends to get better as you go faster. Brakes have a lot of bite and are very effective.

Safety features include front and passenger airbags, ABS, Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control and Cornering Brake Control.
