Mahindra Racing has taken the wraps off their new race car that will compete in the 2018-19 Formula E racing season.

The new car christened the M5Electro will make its debut at the first race on December 15, 2018 in Ad Diriyah Saudi Arabia. It is based on the second generation of the Formula E race car new technology used in the powertrain. It can go from 0 to 100 kph in just 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 280 kph. The race livery comprises of a red, blue and white colour scheme. The team kit is also new and takes inspiration from the Bengal Tiger and the Lotus flower.

Lubricant and energy giant Shell has come in as a sponsor of Mahindra Racing and the Shell logo will be displayed prominently on the race car. Mahindra and Shell will also jointly develop lubricants and fluids for electric vehicles.

The Mahindra Racing M5Electro will be driven by Pascal Wehrlin andJerome D’ambrosio in the new season.

Formula E is now now in its 5th season  and will comprise of 13 races. There some prominent changes to the format. Each race will last 45 minutes plus one lap. There is a new Attack Mode that driver will be able to use to get extra power. To activate this mode, drivers will have to drive the cars off the racing line through the Activation Zone.This will add 25 KW of extra power. The popular FANBOOST feature remains and this time around, the five drivers who get the boost via voting will get a burst of power that they can deploy in a 5 second window in the second half of the race.
