Volkswagen had first launched the ionic Beetle in India in 2009. The car however did not sell in good numbers due to the cute image portraying it as a car for the ladies. The fact that it was a CBU meant that it wasnt that cheap to buy either. VW finally stopped importing the car due to poor sales.

Volkswagen is now planning to launch the all new Beetle in India by the end of 2015. The new car retains the classic ‘Bug’ design but comes with new styling. It comes with new bumpers, raked roofline, integrated spoiler and larger wheels which give it a more muscular look. This might now appeal a wider customer base. The car is a size larger and longer and wider than before.

The Beetle sold in the global markets is powered by turbo charged petrol and diesel engines. There is no word yet as to which engine will be offered on the Beetle in India. The car has is already being tested in India without any disguise.

The Beetle however wont come cheap. Expect prices to be be in the region of Rs. 35 lakh ex showroom Delhi since the car will be imported as a CBU.
