The Tata Motors 45X hatchback finally gets a name and will be called the Tata Altroz. The 45X hatchback concept was first shown at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi.

The Tata Altroz will make its debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show 2019 and will launch in the Indian market come August 2019. The name Altroz is derived from the albatross sea bird and Tata says the Altroz will “stand for agility, performance and efficiency”.

The Altroz will be the second product from the Tata Motors stable to be based on the Impact 2.0 design philosophy. It will be the first product to be engineered on the new ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) Architecture.

Interiors are expected to be of high quality with the equipment list featuring touch screen infotainment, part digital instrument cluster etc.

As far as engines go, the 45X by more powerful versions of the 1.2 litre petrol and 1.5 litre diesel engines that are currently doing duty in the Nexon compact SUV. Gearbox options could include a six sped manual and a dual clutch unit that is said to be under development.

The Tata Altroz will rival the Maruti Baleno and the Hyundai i20 in the Indian market.
