Toyota Camry Hybrid handling and safety

Ride quality is first rate and the Camry just soaks in every patch of bad road. It doesn’t unsettle you even when you go through potholes. Handling is not a virtue of the Camry and it wont enjoy being thrown into corners. The steering is light, which works well in city traffic but isn’t well weighted at high speeds. There is quite a bit of body roll as well. It is not a car for spirited driving…period.

Safety features on the Camry Hybrid include four airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, Hill Start Assist and Vehicle Stability Control.

Toyota Camry Hybrid verdict

The Toyota Camry Hybrid is a sensible choice for someone whose priority is space and comfort.  The car is packed with features which are seen on more expensive cars. The petrol engine and electric motor offer a pleasant driving experience, and while it is not an enthusiasts dream, it will keep you smiling most of the time. Plus it is fuel efficient too and you will also have a halo on your head knowing you are doing your bit for planet Earth. It may not have the snob value of the Germans but what you get is bullet proof reliability and a hassle free ownership experience. The only deterrence is the price. While the price had gone down when the Camry went the local assembly way, the recent GST along with the high cess on hybrid vehicles pushed up the price by 6 lakhs making it a very expensive proposition. We do hope there are corrections by the Government in the future to make hybrids more affordable and more of them are seen on the roads. As a package, the Camry Hybrid is fantastic and even though I am a hardcore petrolhead, it has generated affection in me towards hybrid technology. Price aside, it ticks all the right boxes.
