Volkswagen is all set to launch the Tiguan SUV in India with production having begun at the company’s production facility in Auraganbad. The Volkswagen Tiguan was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is built on the the MQB platform shared with the new Octavia. While the Tiguan comes with multiple engine options abroad, the India spec version will come with a 2.0 litre diesel engine developing 143 horsepower. Transmission for the Tiguan will be in the form of a 7 speed DSG gearbox. All wheel drive will also be on offer.

The Tiguan will be sold in India in two variants. The Comfortline will get 17 inch wheels while the Highline will get 18 inch wheels. More features like a panoramic roof, virtual release pedal and faux leather upholstery will also be available depending on the variant. The Tiguan will feature LED headlights, an infotainmet system and a host of safety features as well. The Indian spec Tiguan will come in a five seater layout and standard wheelbase.

Volkswagen earlier sold the Touareg in India which was discontinued few years ago. The car maker is looking to tap the popular premium SUV segment with the Tiguan.
