IMG_0396Volkswagen India will be launching the Tiguan SUV in India this year in April and will follow that up by launching the Passat in July. The Passat was discontinued in the Indian market in 2013.

The Tiguan was showcased in India at the Auto Expo 2016. This SUV is built on the the MQB platform shared with the new Octavia. While the Tiguan comes with multiple engine options abroad, the India spec version is expected to come with a 2.0 litre diesel engine. Transmission for the Tiguan will be in the form of a 7 speed DSG gearbox. All wheel drive will also be on offer. The Tiguan is expected to be priced between Rs. 30 and 35 lakh.IMG_0377The Passat has already been testing on Indian roads for a while now. The car ix expected to launch in July and will be powered by Volkswagen’s new EA288, 2.0 litre engine that develops 177 horsepower. Prices are expected to be between Rs 32 to 34 lakh.

Both the Tiguan and the Passat will be locally assembled. VW is also looking to launch the Passat GTE plug in hybrid in India at a later stage.
