After launch the 3-Series and 5-Series petrol models, BMW is set to introduce petrol variants of the X3 and X5 SUVs in India. Reports say that the petrol SUVs will be locally assembled unlike the sedans that are sold as full imported CBUs.
The BMW X3 is expected to come in the 28i avtaar. It will be powered by a 2.0 litre four cylinder twin turbo petrol engine that develops 240 horsepower and 353 Nm of torque. While the car is available in rear wheel drive and all wheel drive options globally, India is expected to get the XDrive all wheel drive variant only. The BMW X5 is likely to come as the 35i. It will be powered by a 3.0 litre inline six cylinder engine that develops 300 horsepower 407 Nm torque. It will also available in the XDrive variant only. Both SUVs will come with an eight speed automatic gearbox.
Dealers are apparently taking bookings for both models with an amount of Rs. 5 lakh. The petrol X3 and X5 will rival the Mercedes GLC300 and the GLE400 petrols in the Indian market.
BMW is expected to bring in more petrol models to India in the future. These include a petrol X1 and a more powerful petrol engine in the 3-Series.
