Porsche has revealed the new 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S. The original Boxster had first made its debut 20 years ago in 1996.
The new Boxster twins come with a new front bumper and larger cooling air intakes at the front. There are bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights. LED headlights with four-point daytime running lights are available on order as a new option. The doors are now designed without door handle recess covers. The rear gets LED tail lights and four point brake points. There is an accent strip with integrated Porsche badge between the tail lights.
Power comes from a series of newly developed four cylinder turbocharged engines, The 718 Boxster sports a 2.0 litre engine that develops 300 horsepower, while the 718 Boxster S makes 350 horsepower from a 2.5 litre engine. The S model uses a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. The 2.0 litre engine makes 380 Nm torque between 1,950 rpm to 4,500 rpm, while the 2.5 litre unit makes 420 Nm tht comes up between 1,900 rpm to 4,500 rpm. Both 718 models come with a six speed manual gearbox as standard and PDK gearbox as an option.
The 718 Boxster with PDK and the Sport Chrono Package goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and the 718 Boxster S with the same equipment completes this discipline in 4.2 seconds. The top speed of the 718 Boxster is 275 km/h, and the 718 Boxster S has a top speed of 285 km/h.
Other features include an electromechanical power steering that is 10% more direct, optional Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with a 10 mm lower ride height and the PASM sport chassis with a 20 mm lower ride height is available as an option for the 718 Boxster S, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) unit with phone connectivity, audio interfaces and the Sound Package Plus with 110 watts of power.
