Volkswagen Virtus Interior

The signature VW door sound ‘thunk” leads to a very modern and driver focused cabin. The first thing to notice the angular and dual tone dash and nice-to-hold steering wheel. The body colour inserts on the dash may have some divided opinions. Virtus GT variant gets an 8 inch digital cluster with red theme. You can switch between digital and analog display. There is a 10 inch touchscreen infotainment system paired to an 8 speakers setup. The graphics are crisp and the system is slick to use. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can be connected wirelessly. Oh yes, there’s wireless charging as well as a cooled glove box for those sodas on hot summer days. Stowage spaces are also in abundance along with big bottle holders. The sunroof gives the cabin a very airy feel. Rest of the center console is similar to recent VW cars.  We like the placement of the engine Start/ Stop on the centre console. Very easy to access.

While the GT variant (Performance Line) gets black seats with contrast red stitching, the 1.0 TSI (Dynamic Line) get dual tone seats – black and beige. This makes the 1.0’s cabin appear a bit roomier compared to the GT. The Dynamic Line has some other distinguishing factors over GT. Silver inserts instead of body colour on GT, Blue theme on the digital cluster versus the red on GT.

We drove Virtus at Amritsar in sweltering Indian summer with temperatures hitting 40 deg C. Such conditions are real test for any car’s air-con. And we were glad that Virtus kept us very comfortable. The cabin cools down pretty quickly.

The front leather seats are comfortable and shouldn’t cause a problem on those long highway drives. The front seats are ventilated; a total boon on our drive in hot Amritsar.  There’s an armrest with a useable space underneath. It also slides forward for convenience.  The rear seats are equally comfortable. Each occupant gets a headrest and there’s enough legroom and headroom.  The rear seat is however best comfortable for two.  The 521 litres of boot space more than adequate, and if you want more, you can fold down the rear seats.

Overall, the interiors are good and holds up well. There are few points like missing soft touch on dash, some hard plastics here and there. But doesn’t hamper the overall cabin experience on the Virtus.
