Jeep Meridian Engine & Performance

The Merdian comes with the same 2.0 litre diesel engine that does duty in the Compass. There is no extra power and the engine makes the same 170 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. There is no petrol engine on offer. There is a choice of a 6 speed manual and a 9 speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Jeep is also offering the autobox in FWD guise as well, something that is not available in the Compass. First thing you will notice is how refined the engine feels in the Meridian when compared to the Compass. Power delivery is smooth and linear and it only gets a tad noisy at higher rpms. The torque spread is nice and it doesn’t feel underpowered at all. The 9 speed automatic gearbox is slow in respond, and takes its own sweet time time to upshift and downshift every time. The Meridian doesn’t feel enthusiastic but will make for a fantastic cruiser all day long. If you like long distance touring, you will love the Meridian for its cruising abilities.

Jeep Meridian Ride & Handling

If the Compass was a great handler, the Meridian is even better. The suspension comes equipped with Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) and Hydraulic Rebound Stoppers (HRS). These help the SUV just fly over potholes and bad roads. You don’t have to slow down anywhere. The ride is a little on the firm side at lower speeds but gets better as speeds climb. The Merdian is a joy to go around corners with minimal body roll and accurate steering. Braking power is excellent.
