Jaguar design director Ian Callum has revealed that Jaguar could consider adding a new small car to their model range that would sit below the new Jaguar XE.

Callum was speaking during an interview at the New York Motor Show and said ” “There’s always space to go smaller — the world is changing very quickly, I think there’s a huge opportunity in the small car market, but it’s a very difficult business — hugely competitive and hugely price conscious.”

While he did not confirm that a smaller model was in the works, he said they were thinking about it. He also mentioned that the new model would be a front wheel drive saying that “technology now compensates for its misgivings.”

Switching to FWD would require a new chassis architecture, admitted Callum, meaning such a vehicle is still several years away.
