India’s automobile industry is at crossroads where it’s pushing the use electric vehicles instead of fossil fuel driven cars. Switching to electric vehicles is not only economically beneficial, but also environmentally friendly for the country.  The Government is taking various steps right from infrastructure, subsidies to finding ways to bringing down costs of batteries.  Manufacturers have understood that the tide is turning towards cleaner sources of energy. While handful of companies have launched electric vehicles viz Tata, Hyundai, Mahindra. Morris Garages is the latest one to join the list and surprisingly its their second offspring in India – the MG ZS EV. We drove it in urban city roads and highway to see what its all about.

MG ZS EV Exterior

MG’s first offering India, the Hector, was an instant hit. It was the perfect recipe of a SUV loaded with technology, looks to match and a good set of engines. The ZS EV, well, cannot be classified as a full-fledged SUV but belongs to the ever increasing category of crossovers. It may not be as flashy as the Hector but it’s a good-looking car. The London Eye inspired LED DRLs is what you would notice along with a nice looking front grille with right dose of chrome. At 1644mm, it is not a very tall vehicle but at a length of 4314mm and width of 1809mm, its outscores its direct rival Hyundai Kona in all departments except the wheel base. From the side, you will not miss two things, one – the 17” Dutch windmill inspired alloys and second – the unusually big ‘electric’ logo. MG calls the side design as a Leopard Jump Shoulder Design, what it means is it resembles a leopard preparing to jump. Coming to the rear, the tail lamps are inspired by the Ursa Major constellation. We drove in foggy conditions and they were pretty bright and hence living up true to the name, after seven brightest stars in the sky. The MG ZS EV will be available in 3 colour options – Ferris White, Copenhagen Blue and Currant Red.
