The first Made in India Jeep Compass has rolled off the assembly line at Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility near Pune. Maharashtra Chief Minister Mr. Devendra Fadnavis drove the first production example of the Compass out of the plant 

FCA has invested USD 280 million in this facility for the production of the Compass. The India plant will also be the only one in the world to produce the Compass in right hand drive. Jeep will export the Compass to RHD markets like Japan, UK and Australia.

Made in India Jeep Compass engines

The Made in India Jeep Compass will come with with two engine options. The first is a 2.0 litre Multijet diesel motor developing 170 horsepower and 350 Nm torque. It will be sold in both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations. The diesel will initially come only with a 6 speed manual gearbox. The other engine is a 1.4 litre MultiAir petrol unit developing 160 horses and 250 Nm torque. The petrol will also be sold in 4×2 and 4×4 versions. Transmissions include a 6 speed manual and 7 speed dual clutch automatic gearbox.

Made in India Jeep Compass details and features

The Jeep Compass gets over 50 safety features. These include six airbags including dual stage passenger airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Steering Torque (DST), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Adaptive Brake Lights and Panic Brake Assist.

he Compass will get the Jeep Active Drive SelecTerrain 4×4 system. It features a disconnecting rear axle and power take-off unit (PTU), in order to provide 4×4 models with enhanced fuel economy. Jeep Active Drive SelecTerrain 4×4 system instantly engages when 4×4 traction is needed.

The India spec Jeep Compass will get FCA’s “small wide architecture,” a fully independent suspension with Frequency Selective Damping in front-and-rear-strut system, and electric power steering. The upper body structure and frame are engineered as a single unit for a stiff and more mass-efficient structure, and it is designed and built with an extensive use of high-strength steel and liberal use of structural adhesives. More than 65percent high-strength steel is used for maximizing vehicle dynamics and crash performance while optimizing weight efficiency.

The Jeep Compass India launch is expected in August 2017.
