s400Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will launch the S400 in India on March 29, 2016.

The Mercedes-Benz S400 is powered by a 3.0 litre twin turbo V6 petrol engine that develops 329 bhp and 480 Nm torque. Internationally, the S400 is mated to a 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic gearbox, but it is not known if the new 9G-Tronic nine speed automatic gearbox will be made available on this model. The S400 is sold as a hybrid variant in global markets. The car comes with all round air suspension and rear wheel drive.

The Mercedes-Benz S400 will join the other S-Class models in the India portfolio that include the S350d diesel, S500 petrol, Mercedes-Maybach S-class in S 500 and S 600 variants, the armoured S600 Guard and the AMG S63. The company also sells the S-Class Coupe in India and the Cabriolet that was showcased at the Auto Expo earlier will also be launched later this year.

The S400 will sit between the S350d and the S500 in India and prices are expected to be in the ballpark of Rs. 1.2 to Rs. 1.4 crore ex showroom Delhi. The car is expected to be locally assembled at Mercedes’ facility in Chakan, Pune. The S400 will be an ideal choice for those who wanted a petrol S-Class with lower running costs compared to the V8 powered S500.
