Volkswagen Motorsport India has revealed details of the Ameo Cup car that will be driven in the 2017 Volkswagen Ameo Cup.

The Ameo Cup car has been completed developed in house at the Volkswagen India plant in Pune, a first for a car of its kind. It gets power from a 1.8 litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine that develops 205 horsepower at 6100 rpm and 320 Nm torque between 3200 rpm and 4600 rpm. This is the same engine that does duty in the Polo GTI.While cars in the earlier Vento series features DSG dual clutch automatic gearboxes, the Ameo Cup car will come with a 6-speed racing sequential gearbox with steering-mounted paddle shifters. The car will run on 17 inch alloy wheels and tyres that have been specially developed by MRF for the car. for braking power, the car gets 334mm ventilated discs at front and 232mm discs at the rear.

Sirish Vissa, head of Volkswagen Motorsport India, commented on the new Ameo Cup car saying, “The car is unlike anything Indian motorsport has seen from the Volkswagen’s stable. It has more power and amazing handling, yet it is simple enough for budding racers to learn on. The race machine is on par with international standards and the new elements in the car make it possible to take our one-make series to a new high.” Karthik Tharani, Volkswagen Motorsport India development and test driver, added on the performance of the car, “The Ameo Cup race car is a very well sorted machine and this is evident with the test lap time of 01:51.780, which is 4.6 seconds quicker as compared to the Vento Cup race car around the Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT).”

The 2017 Volkswagen Ameo Cup is scheduled to start in June at the Kari Motor Speedway near Coimbatore with a couple of rounds to be held later at MMRT in Chennai and one round at the Buddh International Circuit.
