The Volkswagen T-cross, which is set to begin its India stint around next year, recently scored 5-stars in the European New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) safety tests.
The Euro NCAP is one of the most stringent safety tests conducted globally, making Volkswagen’s efforts at engineering their car truly laudable. Here are a few excerpts from the report:
- Adult occupants: 97% safety
- Child occupants: 86% safety
- Vulnerable road users safety: 81%
- Safety assist reliability: 80%
Each of the above parameters is an aggregate of individual tests designed around various impact regions of the human body, and child safety has been carried out on dummies that represent 6 and 10-year old kids.
The car scored slightly poorly on the pedestrian safety front, as there were mixed results in the impact of pelvic regions, but did remarkably well on the reliability of safety assist features such as speed limiting, autonomous emergency braking in tight situations and a lane assist system.
Volkswagen is known for its extremely reliable build quality, and the T-Cross lives up to the name. While the India bound version of the T-Cross might not be equipped with as many safety features, it will still be reasonably safe.
The debutant stands up against the rivals like Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster in the compact SUV segment and is expected to land here by 2020, though there has been no official announcement.
