Volvo has announced that it will launch the XC40 luxury compact SUV in India on July 4, 2018. Pre-bookings are now open across all Volvo dealers in India for a deposit of Rs. 5 lakh. Only 200 units are allocated for India in the first lot.

the first model to be built on the car maker’s new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform. The CMA platform will underpin all other upcoming cars in the 40 Series including fully electrified vehicles. Volvo will launch the XC40 in India in a single R-Design trim.

The XC40 will feature a 2.0 litre D4 diesel engine that puts out 190 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an eight speed automatic gearbox and features all wheel drive. A petrol engine variant could be launched later.

Standard features include a 13 speaker Harman Kardon sound system, panoramic sunroof, 9 inch SENSUS touch screen infotainment system, powered tail gate, heated seats and dual tone interiors.

There is a full list of standard safety kit including radar based systems that include lane departure assist, adaptive cruise control, Hill Descent Control, Pilot Assist, ABS with EBD, City Safety, Run-off Road protection and mitigation and 7 airbags.

The Volvo XC40 will be sold as a CBU. Rivals include the Mercedes GLA, BMW X1 and the Audi Q3.
