2017 Jeep Compass Interior

The interior has a very subtle appearance and feels pleasing to the eye. It is more about function than form.  The layout is neat and everything is right at hand where you want it. The dual tone dashboard reeks of quality and is made of soft touch materials. The instrument cluster comprises of two pods that hold the speedo and the tachometer with an MID in between. The cluster has clear fonts and is easy to read. The three spoke steering wheel has a good grip and is nice to hold. The blank buttons on the steering wheel stand out like a sore thumb reminding you of missing features. The volume controls too are weirdly placed behind the steering. There is manual adjust for the steering rake and reach. The white leather upholstery feels rich but will definitely be a pain to clean. The round gear knob finished in metallic silver is classy, while the aluminium accents across various places in the cabin add a nice touch. The cabin and fit and finish feels built to last except for some plastic bits that feel down on quality like the piano black panels around the infotainment screen and a couple of other places. The Compass uses the UConnect 4 infotainment system displayed on a 7 inch colour touch screen. While it is easy to use, there is a slight delay in response times. It comes with a host of options including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. And what’s more, you get a full screen Compass as well as one of the features in the infotainment system. Nice one Jeep. The dual zone auto climate control works well. The sound system comes with 6 speakers and USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity. Sound quality from the system is good, nothing to complain about. A rear view camera comes standard on this range topping variant. The front seats are comfortable and hold you well in place. They feel plush too. The drives seat misses out on electric adjust. Jeep should have provided this atleast on the top variant. The rear has ample legroom and the rear seats offer good under thigh support as well. Headroom is also adequate. Rear occupants get their own set of air con vents and charging point as well. The rear is best suited for two but a third passenger won’t feel uncomfortable really.

What’s not to like? There are a few missing features that you expect to have in segment. The Jeep Compass misses out on a sunroof, cruise control (blank buttons on the steering), auto dimming mirror, navigation, auto headlamps and auto wipers.  Cars from a lower segment offer most of these features nowadays.
