MG Hector Interior

The Hector’s doors feel heavy, just like how a British car should feel.  The piece de resistance is the 10.4-inch touch screen, that catches the attention of not only the co-passenger but also passersby. The screen has very few buttons around giving an un-cluttered look. The screen size is the biggest offered across the segment and matches the size of a few high-end cars.  The Hector offers a splendid Infinity sound system along with a 360-degree camera, TomTom Navigation with real time traffic updates and a subscription to the Gaana app for music streaming, Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The fit and finish looks impressive, thanks to the use of quality materials. The cabin gets soft touch surfaces at the right areas bumping up the experience. The flat bottom steering feels premium to hold, and at the same time adds a sporty feeling. It carries the usual controls for cruise control, volume, MID toggle switch; wake ‘personal assistant’ and call/disconnect button. The front leather seats offer great comfort and under thigh support. The driver and co-passenger wont complain after a fairly long drive, we didn’t after 12 hours. The six-way electric seat helps find the ideal driving position. The instrument cluster is easy to read and displays vital information like tyre pressure, turn-by-turn navigation, media info, battery usage in the hybrid version and the usual telephony bits. You will not miss the anti-clock wise tachometer for sure. The Hector does come with a rich feature list. Auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, heated ORVMs and mood lighting are just some of the highlights. There are other small yet important features like 3-USB slots at the front, one of them supports fast charging, and other one is integrated into the rear view mirror. This helps in getting rid those dangling wires especially required to power a dash cam. However, the glove box and bottle holder in the door could be a tad bigger.  The rear occupants would be equally happy as the Hector offers impressive space thanks to the long wheelbase. Reclining rear seats along with flat floor ensures there is enough headroom and shoulder room for all including your tall friends who usually sulk when asked to sit at the back. A panoramic sunroof along with huge windows makes the journey more enjoyable. At 587 litres, the Hector offers segment best boot space. The electric tailgate’s opening height can be adjusted from the setting menu as per your requirement. As expected, the full size steel spare wheel is located on the underside.

The showstopper feature of the Hector is connectivity. Remember the Internet Inside, we mentioned a little while ago? It holds true. The Hector comes with an integrated Airtel sim card. There are no subscription charges for first three years. Connectivity includes an impressive list of features including geo-fencing, emergency calling, analytics, over the air updates and 100 voice commands, 20 more will be added later. The voice commands help you carry out functions without even taking your eye off the road or hands off the wheel. The wake command is a simple ‘Hello MG’ and the virtual personal assistant acknowledges by statements like I’m listening or How can I help you? Pre-set commands include Open Sunroof, Open Driver side window; Turn on the Radio, Increase the Volume, Switch On/Off the Air Con, Set Temperature. If you try to ask questions out of syllabus, the Hector will politely refuse to answer them. The MG i–Smart app offers more impressive features like Find My Car, Roll up the windows and lock the car while you are sitting in any part of the world. In the automatic variant, you can even switch on the car and Turn on the AC from your cellphone. Best way to beat the heat, I say!
