A new Ferrari. A statement that makes each petrolhead go gaga every now and then. This time around, however, this statement is even more special, it is a new four-door Ferrari. Surprise Surprise, even Ferrari had to finally bow down to what the market demands, but in their own way. It may well be considered to be an SUV but Ferrari is not calling it one. It merely comes across as a more practical package of what the brand has been known for all these years. Unveiled right now, this is the new Ferrari Purosangue, Italian for a thoroughbred. What makes the Purosangue a true purosangue? Do read ahead to find out.

Ferrari Purosangue Engine Specs

Let us start with the engine. Like a true sportscar, this one has a V12, with no turbos or hybrid assistance. Just a good old, big and naturally aspirated V12 motor displacing 6.5 Litres. The result is a mouth-watering 725 PS of power, produced at a glorious 7,750 revolutions per minute. Maximum torque offered by the engine is 716 Nm. The torque is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The engine is capable of producing a V12 symphony all the way to 8,250 rpm. Go flat out and the driver can propel the car to 100 kmph in a time of 3.3 seconds. Not bad for the heaviest Ferrari made till date. The car tops out at a little more than 310 kmph.

Ferrari Purosangue Chassis

This mighty big block engine sits in a chassis, made specifically for the Purosangue. This bespoke chassis, which comes with a carbon fibre roof, was deemed necessary for what Ferrari has done for the first time. Cars like the GTC4 Lusso and the FF from this Maranello-based manufacturer have accommodated 4 passengers in the past. However, this time Ferrari has introduced rear-hinged doors, which would make ingress and egress easier for the passengers sitting in the rear. These doors can be closed and opened electrically, with just the press of a button.  Just like the passengers in the front, the rear passengers too, get their own seats, with the capability of adjusting them individually. To make more space for luggage, the rear seats can be folded down.

Another advantage of having a bespoke chassis is the placement of the engine. Unlike most of its competitors, the Purasongue has a front, mid-engine layout. With the gearbox placed towards the rear, this results in optimum weight distribution of 49% in the rear and 51% in the front. Further emphasising the sporty character of the car is the fact that there is no off-road mode. Ferrari does not even offer special underbody protection for the car. This makes their intentions of not calling this car an SUV, very clear. That said, there is around 180 mm of ground clearance on offer, which can be raised further, with the press of a button.

Ferrari Purosangue Handling

Also making its debut in this vehicle is the new Ferrari Active Suspension Technology. This new technology employs a 48 Volt actuator in each corner of the car, helping to control each wheel individually. Further improving the driving dynamics of the Purosangue is the 4-wheel steering system, straight from the 812 Competizione. Hill Descent Control also makes its debut in a Ferrari model with the Purosangue.

Ferrari Purosangue Indian Launch

Deliveries for left-hand drive markets are expected to begin from the second quarter of 2023, while deliveries for right-hand drive markets, India included, will begin from the last quarter of 2023. It does not come across as a surprise that Ferrari has a good number of people ready to give a booking for one. Prices for the Indian market will start around the INR 6 crore mark.
