Korean automaker Hyundai recently launched the Grand i10 Nios. Positioned between the i10 and the i20, Nios is the harbinger of many a feature; firsts in any known Hyundai.

It is being offered in a 1.2L 3-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine (U2 CRDi – 75hp / 190 Nm) and a 1.2L 4-cylinder NA petrol engine (Kappa – 83 hp / 114Nm). Both engines come mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

The petrol engine is BS-6 compliant and returns a mileage of 20.7km/l (manual) and 20.5 km/l (AMT). The diesel engine, however, is BS-4 compliant and returns a better mileage of (26.2 km/l).

The car comes with superior construction quality resulting from the use of 65% Advanced high strength steel (AHSS), while sporting really aspirational and youthful design to appeal to the ‘Athletic Millennial’.

In terms of aesthetics, the car gets a cascading front grille which is slightly maximised compared to the Santro. The bumper is contoured and sits well against projector head and fog lamps with LED DRLs. This has also been carried to the rear of the car. The Nios is bigger to the Grand i10 a tad much on all three axes.

Inside the cabin, affairs are snug with all creature comforts essential to make the car relevant to the times it has been launched in. The top-of-the-line Asta variant of the Nios is equipped with an 8.0-inch infotainment display and a 5.3-inch party digital instrument cluster. The infotainment boasts of smartphone connectivity and sound is delivered by a 4 speaker Arkamys system.

Other features such as wireless charging with USB ports at the front and power sources at the rear, cooled glove box, rear AC vents, electric wing mirrors are some of the many features peppered throughout the car.

As we stated earlier, the car has a sturdier build due to the use of AHSS in 65% of the structure. This is further assisted by dual airbags, ABD with EBD, seat belt reminder and rear parking sensors as standard equipment.
