After polarising the automotive world with the Urus, the Bolognian automaker is up to mischief yet again. Lamborghini recently disclosed the Sterrato concept in an attempt to what it calls ‘bridging the supercar and SUV territory’.

The Sterrato is based on the Huracan Evo, and not meant for purists with cardiac issues. One glance at the car and you know it is not your everyday Lamborghini; if there were such a thing at all. Firepower comes from the 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine that mobilises 610 hp, and then there are those very Huracan-like looks (well, because it is based on that), and that’s where the differences begin.

To begin with, the car sits higher than its more civilised twin by 47mm. This has helped the case of the approach and departure angle by a factor of 1% and 6.5% respectively. And then there are those outrageous 20-inch mudslinging tyres with a 30mm wider track, covered with vented fender flares. The front and rear of the car have been reinforced, and the underbody is secured with aluminium skid plates and stone deflectors around the engine and air intakes.

The cabin is protected by a titanium roll cage and aluminium floors. Seating is completely carbonized and secured by 4 point harnesses. The offroad element is further completed by a roof-mounted LED light bar with hexagonal floodlights on the bumpers. And to all those sniggering all show-no go, Lamborghini’s LDVI (Lamborghini dynamic vehicle integration) system has been optimized to impart offroad suited driving capability. The car has been presented in bright orange with race-inspired livery, showing that it is built to take a beating.

As of now, there have been no announcements whatsoever for pricing, but the car is being touted as a one-off. A gateway to a new product philosophy with Urus’s babies in making? Time will tell.
