In line with the diesel engine phase-out plan, Maruti Suzuki recently discontinued the 1.3L diesel variant of its popular Ertiga MPV. The FCA sourced engine also did duty on other cars from Maruti’s portfolio and was available in a 75hp and 90 hp tune.

For now, Maruti will deploy the petrol and diesel versions of its 1.5L engine that come mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission, or a 6-speed manual, in the diesel’s case. The petrol engine makes 105hp and 138 Nm of torque and has SHVS technology for improved fuel economy. The diesel motor makes 95 hp and is slated to be discontinued as soon as BS-6 kicks in.

The BS-6 compliant version of the Ertiga is already on sale at Rs. 7.55 lakh and goes up against the likes of the Mahindra Marazzo, Renault Lodgy and Honda BR-V. Also eagerly awaited is Ertiga’s new cousin, christened the XL6, poised for an August 21 launch.
