The Mercedes-Benz C250d features the same 2.1 litre four cylinder diesel engine that does duty in the C220d, but comes with twin turbo charging. The motor now develops 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of maximum torque. There is enough power across the rev range and there isn’t a hint of turbo lag either. Acceleration is very smooth and linear. The engine has fantastic drivability but the engine did feel loud at higher revs.  What adds to the driving experience is the 9G-Tronic nine speed gearbox that Mercedes has equipped the C250d with. The shifts are silky smooth and the transmission is quick to go through the cogs. Before you know it, you are already cruising at 100 kph at just between 1300 to 1400 rpm. The new gearbox has made the car more fuel efficient as well. All this translates to the C250d being a fantastic highway mile muncher. The low end grunt makes it easy to potter around in city traffic as well. There are also five drive modes to choose from. For some enthusiastic driving, Sport + mode along with shifting gears manually via the paddles should do the trick. However do note that even Sport + does not allow you to hold gears till you want to shift.mercedes-benz-c250d-02 mercedes-benz-c250d-04The C250d is loaded with safety features that include 7 airbags, ABS, ASR, ESP, PRE-Safe, Hill Start Assist and Attention Assist.

The Mercedes-Benz C250d is approximately Rs. 5 lakh more expensive than its C220d sibling. That money gets you more power, some additional equipment and most importantly, that fantastic nine speed auto box. If you are the kind who spends more time in the back seat and let the chauffeur handling driving duties, the C220d makes more sense. But, if you are going to drive your Mercedes more often and performance is a word that pulls your heart strings, get the C250d. That extra moolah that you will spend is worth it.mercedes-benz-c250d-08
