Maruti Suzuki Celerio Engine and Performance

The new Celerio debuts Suzuki’s new K10C Dualjet petrol engine in India. Dualjet means the use of two injectors per cylinder. This 1.0 litre 3 cylinder unit makes 67 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque. As mentioned earlier, the highlight of this engine is the fuel efficiency with 26.68 kpl. Now that’s really something. The power figures may not be much on paper but the Celerio is a very nice car to drive. Power build up is smooth and pretty impressive. It is a neat car to zip in and out of traffic. The five speed manual has short throws and is fun to shift. The light clutch also makes things easier in traffic and highway drives are easy too. For those looking for convenience, the Celerio also comes with a 5 speed AMT. If one remembers, Maruti had debuted the AMT gearbox for the first time with the 1st gen Celerio. And it has come a long way since then. Sure, there are the head nods in the first two ratios, but they are well controlled. As you drive along the shifts are smooth and makes driving easy. Still, it is nowhere are seamless as a torque convertor or a CVT. That said, you can shift gears manually as well. The AMT gearbox makes it a great city daily runabout.

The Celerio does soak up undulations in the road well, but big potholes will make themselves felt. Handling is fair and the car remains composed around corners. The steering however lacks feedback even though it is quite easy to use. High speed stability is also good and braking is efficient as well.

The safety kit includes dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, high speed alerts, front seat belt reminders and Hill Start Assist (on AMT models).
