Nissan has revealed the Patrol Desert Edition at the Dubai Motor Show 2015. This edition of the SUV has been developed in partnership with UAE Rally Champion, Dr Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA Vice President and President of the Automobile and Touring Club UAE, and will be available for sale to customers in the UAE region only.

Power comes from a 5.6 litre V8 petrol engine that develops 400 horsepower and 560 Nm torque. It comes mated to a 7 speed automatic gearbox with manual mode and synchronized rev control.

The Desert Edition gets special skid plates for underbody protection, an onboard tyre inflator, ‘Bead Lock’ wheels that allow the tyres to be used at very low pressures, special wheel arch protectors, navigation system, front rear cameras and Bluetooth connectivity. It is distinguished by ‘Desert Edition’ and ‘MBS’ badges.

“To lend my initials to any vehicle, it has to be the best of its kind,” says Dr Ben Sulayem of his involvement in the Desert Edition project. “It was particularly thrilling for me to have so much
influence over the technical specification of what was already the ultimate off-road machine. With my decades of first-hand experience competing in – and winning – the toughest off-road events in the world, this new Nissan Patrol Desert Edition has been developed to be the very best.”

Nissan is evaluating the Patrol for an India launch. The SUV was showcased in March earlier this year at the Buddh International Circuit. If launched, it will rival the Toyota LandCruiser on our roads.
