Ferrari recently went the turbo way when they launched the 488 GTB with a turbo charged V8 engine. This led to speculation that we could see Ferrari’s V12 motors head in the same direction. However, that is not the case.

A source close to the Maranello outfit said that there would be no turbocharging on the V12 engines but to expect the next generation V12 powered cars to come with 48 volts systems. This means that the cars will use mild hybrid technology that is currently seen on the LaFerrari hypercar.

This move will allow Ferrari to maximise fuel efficiency from their engines but at the same time keep down C02 emmisions. Also, the motors can also be tuned for pure power, because the effect of  the drop in low down torque will be compensated by instantaneous electrical energy.
