Lewis Hamilton took a thrilling victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, beating his title rival Sebastian Vettel by 3.4 seconds at the chequered flag. Daniel Ricciardo took the final podium position for Red Bull coming home third.

Both Force Indias finished well taking fourth and fifth, Nico Hulkenburg brought his Renault home in sixth, Carlos Sainz took seventh in his home race for Toro Rosso, while Sauber took their first points of the 2017 season with Pascal Wehrlein taking eighth position.  Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat and Haas’s Romain Grosjean took the final points crossing the flag in ninth and tenth respectively.

There was dram right from the word go as Vettel jumped pole man Hamilton at the start to take the lead of the race. Third placed Bottas managed to touch the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen who in turn hit Max Verstappen of Red Bull taking them both out of the race with suspension failure. Bottas continued in third and retired later with engine failure.

Vettel and Hamilton fought a close battle all along with narrow margins between the two. Vettel came out of the pit lane just a little ahead of Hamilton on lap 38. Mercedes’ pit strategy saw Lewis eventually take the lead thanks to his soft tyres in the final stint of the race as compared to Vettel who switched over to mediums during that time. After Lewis took the lead, he remained unchallenged till the end.

The top three teams saw only one car finishing the race. Vettel still leads the driver’s championship while Mercedes heads the constructors title race.
