Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Engine & Performance

The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is powered by a 2.0 litre TSI petrol engine that develops 190 horsepower at 4200rpm and maximum torque of 320Nm that comes between. 1500-4100rpm. Transmission duties are handled by a 7 speed DSG gearbox that sends power to all four wheels. The Tiguan Allspace features VW’s 4Motion all wheel drive system. Low end is nothing to speak out, there is a bit of lag. But after you cross the 2000 rpm mark, there is a fantastic mid-range. Press the accelerator and power is instant, quick shifts from the DSG helping the cause. It just keeps getting better as it hits the redline and the engine sounds good too. The drive modes make the experience nicer and Sport is the best mode to be in. Gears can also be shifted via the steering mounted paddle shifters.

The Tiguan Allspace with its all independent suspension feels a little stiff at lower speeds, with effects from bad patches of road filtering into the cabin. But it gets better at higher speeds and feels comfortable. Highway cruising is a delight and the Allspace feels firmly planted. Handling is balanced and body roll is well controlled. There is an Off-Road mode as well which alters the way the power shifts between the wheels along with steering and engine response. There’s Hill Descent Control as part of the package too. With 201 mm of ground clearance, it will be able to do some amount of soft-roading.

The safety kit includes 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Anti Slip Regulation and Park Assist.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Verdict

At Rs. 33.12 lakh, the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is around Rs. 2 lakh more expensive than the outgoing Tiguan. It isnt a 7 seater in the true sense of the word and the lack of a diesel engine might be a dealer breaker for many. But the Allspace is a well engineered  SUV with top notch build quality, has a nice feature list and a refined and likeable petrol engine. With the Skoda Kodiaq currently not on sale, the Allspace is a good alternative. But with VW importing them as CBUs in limited numbers, you need to hit your VW dealership quickly if you want one.
