2020 Jaguar XE Engine & Performance

The petrol XE is powered by a 2.0 litre four cylinder turbo charged engine that puts out 250 horses and 365 Nm of torque. There is only a single state of tune available in both trims unlike the pre facelift model. With torque coming in from as low as 1500 rpm, the performance is very linear with a fantastic mid range punch. The motor sounds simply fantastic as you go up the rev band and gives you the feeling that you are driving a two door sports coupe rather than a four door sedan. Transmission duties are handled by an 8 speed automatic gearbox from ZF. However it doesn’t feel very smooth and can get jerky at times. I also found it doing unnecessary downshifts at times and over all this does somewhat hampers the driving experience. To extract the best performance from this tranny, shift to the manual mode and use the paddle shifters The gearbox has a Sport mode as well, and that is just perfect for this engine. Shifts are quicker and makes the driving experience a whole lot better. There are multiple drive modes modes too including a new Rain/Ice/Snow mode, that gives better traction in sticky situations.

2020 Jaguar XE Ride & Handling

The Jaguar XE has always been a fantastic handler and this facelift model is no different. The car is super fun to throw into corners and you feel completely in control thanks to the well weighed steering wheel. It fantastic despite being an electric unit. And yes, it is very tail happy as well. Ride quality is excellent too and the baby Jag just soaks up everything in its path. And despite being a low slung sedan, it doesn’t bottom out on any speed breaker. High speed stability is fantastic and the same goes for the brakes.
